Alice

Watch Democracy Now’s interview with Alice Craft-Kerney and Malik Rahim.

Alice Craft-Kerney is a resident of the Lower Ninth Ward and a former nurse with Charity Hospital in New Orleans who lost her job when Charity Hospital closed as a result of Hurricane Katrina. Her home was devastated by the flooding of the Lower Ninth Ward.

Alice decided to do what she could to bring back her community by working first with Common Ground Collective and then on her own to open a free health clinic in the Lower Ninth Ward.

Since opening its doors and in the face of many difficulties, the health clinic has filled a crucial need in providing health care to many in the community with chronic conditions who had nowhere to turn.

The second anniversary of Katrina is August 29 and many people are still not back in their homes.
